Difficulty opening a Danske Bank term deposit account..

I tried opening a Danske bank term deposit account yesterday (Monday) and the following is the saga:

I contacted them by phone, and, was advised that I would first need to set up a service account. No problem here as this account was free, I said I would go ahead.

Now the fun starts: In order to open this service account I would need to be contacted by an adviser again no problem, but the adviser could not contact me until 15:30 next Friday I said if I was not there he/she could leave a message and I would call back but, no if I missed the call I must then ring for a further appointment possibly a week later.

All this just to open the service account.

I hate to think what will be involved to open the actual deposit account or, more importantly how will I get my money back at the end of the term.

Makes you wonder if they really want to deal with the ordinary depositor at all.

We all should get used to this outstanding service.

It is the new "Normal"

Just wait for the other banks to follow. :-D

ha ha can't say I'm surprised I used to have an account with them and the branch I used in Mullingar was staffed by the biggest load of dead wood imaginable!

Says it all when they don't even accept cash and you have to go to the post office beggars the question why are they here!!!!!

Hello,

I am a customer of Danske and would have to say that I had an excellent experinece with them - initially, I dealt with a NIB "relationship manager" (who has sadly, since taken the voluntary severence package) and since then, have enjoyed excellent online facilities, problem free, entirely reliable etc. When I read about what's happened (again !) with Ulster Bank's computers / atms etc I am genuinely thankful that I'm not with them, for example ....

I've no connection with Danske, I am not getting paid to say this etc etc but to give balance to the comments from Paul Green just above, I am genuinely a happy customer :)

The original saga described seems crazy, needless to say, but perhaps there's common sense to be found if you give them a final call ?

All the best, whatever you decide.

Mr. Earl.

Firstly, I know it has been criticised, but I really like the Danske "new normal" advertising campaign. Especially the poster of the kid using a tablet with the "new normal" label in the windows of closed branches. It is deliberately provocative and it consequently really gets people thinking about how the paradigm is still shifting, and now at a greater pace, from retail to online.

I have being following the consequences of Danske Banks, Danish, where they have a large market share, mass closures of traditional branches, to force people to use online banking.

Everyone knows banking will one day be close to 100% done online, the question is the pace by which banks should gradually shut retail and move online. Arguably, in Denmark, Danske have outpaced the populous online adoption, by the sudden mass branch closures, rather than a phased approach. Countering that, Danske are one step ahead of their competitors.
