Difficulty in putting into gear

I drive an Almera bought new in 2006 with about 8ok miles. Never had a problem until recently had difficult on occasion in putting it into first gear and in particular reverse gear. Am i in trouble and is it possible to repair this and also possible cost. I am just fearing the worst in case it becomes a major problem. Otherwise the car is fine.

Sounds to me like the clutch could be on its way out. No idea as to costs though

A bit of googling suggests that the gearbox could be the culprit.

I bought one recently too, Notchy gear-change seemed to be common with all that I test drove.
Id get the gearbox oil changed as its possibly never changed. takes 3 liters of oil which is odd when the 1.5 engine only takes 2.7L
Its a pretty easy DIY job but you do need a 13mm Allen key for the drain plug which are hard to find.
