I have posted a thread on my employee reducing my days. Have been reading through other posts and just wanted to ask some advice.
I rang social welfare and there seems to be no problem claiming for the days that have been taken from me. So what type of allowance is this called?
On other posts I have noted Job seeker allowance and benefit. Is this something completetly different. Seen as I have been reduced to just one day I will be looking for work, so is this something that I would be entitled to as well. Looking for some clarity please, never been is this position in my life.

Jobseeker's Benefit (if you have the necessary PRSI cover) or Jobseeker's Allowance if you don't but do satisfy the relevant means test I presume? SW benefits are PRSI linked and not means tested while allowances are means tested.

As Clubman says, you will be paid Joseeker's Benefit/Allowance for the days you are not working.

You will need to go to your local Social Welfare Office with a letter from your employer stating the number of days you are now working and the reasons for the reduction.

You will also need your PPS number, Passport or long Birth Cert. and proof of address ie. ESB or Phone Bill and apply for Jobseekers Benefit. If you have insufficient PRSI you will then be offerred Jobseekers Allowance which is means tested.

You should also register with FAS as seeking employment.
