DID - Displaying pre-Sale Prices

During the May BH weekend DID had Sale and they replaced all of their non-sale prices with Sale prices. I vagualey recollect there is some form of law that stipulates a retailer must displaye the pre-sale price....?

I must say this is very annoying as you don't actually know how much you are saving.

Any one know where to report this too?
 
DID sales are a bit of a joke. We went into them a couple of months ago to buy Neff appliances for our new kitchen. They were actually selling the appliances about 10% above the Neff RRP. Even with there sale and a discount for the purchase of a number of items, they werre still above the Neff RRP. Our kitchen supplier supplied the equipment at the Neff RRP no problem.

I too find the practice of not saying what the re-sale price was very frustrating and would put me off buying through DID
 
Recently I was in a store which had garden items for sale. Just noticed price at €22 for one item. Few days later they had a 15% sale. Item in "sale" at €28 before the 15% sale discount....comes to €23.80. Dearer than the original price. Who do they think they're kidding. I am definitely going to catch some shop out on this sharp practice. It would be great to photograph the "before" and "after" items and have it out with them.

My understanding on Sales is that to display a sale price along with a previous "before-sale" price, the previous price must have applied for 30 days in the previous 6 months. Anyone else aware of this? Am I correct?
 
I've seen prices go up aswell. I don't think all items in the sale have to had the previous price, only a certain % of items in the sale. I think its very small percentage. I could be wrong though.

I'm not aware of any such legislation. Perhaps ConsumerConnect can advise/clarify if you contact them?
 
When I worked in retail (about 10 years ago now), the item had to be on sale at the higher price for 30 days out of the last 12 months, to be deemed a sale item.

I worked in furniture, so the prices were increased (in some cases doubled) end November to guarantee the sale price (50% off) on St. Stephens Day sale.
 
Yes - but I'm not aware of it being the law that they must display the pre-sale price along with the sale price...
