Does anybody what the end "result" was in iceland for retail domestic depositors with imf intervention etc. Have any domestic depositors lost out? Is the answer nothing ie no impact?
I was wondering if it might be guide as to what might happen if IMF intervention ever happedned here (although i dont expect it will)
thanks

Bjorn Malmquist: Well, we didn't lose money on our bank deposits but a lot of people lost money on their money market accounts and a lot of people lost money on their stocks. Because a lot of people had stocks in the banks, in the three banks that toppled last winter and all those stocks are now worthless. So a lot of people lost a lot of money

The UK govt only had to cover a certain amount of retail deposits in IceSave but they repaid all sums above what they were required to do.

Many corporate deposit holders lost big sums in IceSave.
