Detroit: Has anybody invested in detroit city, is it as good as it sounds?

Re: detroit

And so it returns.......

Where pray tell did you find out about the massive opportunities in Detroit that lead you to believe that it is 'as good as it sounds'?

If you mean Motown music yes that sounds great if you mean property in one of the most depressed cities in the US then no.

Re: detroit

Yes - very bad

Also remember you have to pay significant annual property tax in the US even if the house cost 1 dollar

There is no goverment support there to try and pin a floor on houses prices unlike our county so you may never see property in downtown detriot recover. Ask yourself what will drive a recovery there

Re: detroit

My american cousin is currently seconded to Detroit by his company (from South Carolina). If you saw the pictures of industrial devastation that he is regularly posting on his facebook page then you'd never, EVER want to go to Detroit, nevermind invest' in it.

Re: detroit

Are there any plans for Ryanair to fly there or even better still a direct flight from Detroit to Bankso or the likes in Bulgaria, especially for "investors"?

Since Berry Gordy and his troups of songsters pulled out after the Detroit riots about 1970 things have been slipping a little. Even Tom Jones had enough of it in the mid 60s as he sang in his song Detroit City. If Philly Soul interests you there are some nice realtor lumps in Philadelphia - even if under two feet of the white stuff at the moment. But as for investment? Yes, if the car industry takes off again
