Destination recommendations for 1 week hol for couple in July?

Trying to plan a week-long sun holiday for myself & Himself in mid-July. (Self catering or B&B.)

Had been thinking along the lines of South of France/Zakynthos/Italian Riviera/Sardinia but don't know anyone who's been to any of these places - and is it madness to be thinking of Italy at that time of year, would we just melt away?

Or would anyone have any alternative destination recommendations? Ideally, somewhere very picturesque, not too quiet/not too wild in terms of nightlife but a little bit "different" to our usual week in Lanzarote - visited Croatia/Dubrovnik last September & loved it. Budget about €1,500 & will prob book independently.

Would be very,very grateful for any advice!

Villefranche-Sur-Mer in the south of France. 15 minutes from Nice. Small, pretty harbour with great restaurants and bars. Definitely not a wild place. Excellent bus and train service along the coast to Nice, Monaco, Cannes etc. Do a search on this forum and you'll find some posts on it.

Try Kephalonia. Was there before the book and film came out (Captain Corellis Mandolin) but loved the place. Better in the north. Or get yourself over to Ithica beside it.
