Hi,
I'm working on a book using WORD. To get the manuscript formatted for the commercial printers, I've to convert the WORD files into PDF files, using the Abode Acrobat software. The manuscript is to contain scanned images, which I'm informed must be in TIFF format.
As I'm quite new to the DTP (Desktop Publishing) business, I'd very much appreciate any advice from those who have had produced books, articles for publication.
Many thanks,
Allendog
http://100-downloads.com suggest ragtime for desktop publishing.
I have no connection with either.
It's free & works on Windows/Mac platforms.
Staroffice may also be worth a look. You can export to pdf format and it's got a database feature (for managing your photos?).
Openoffice is also free, multi-platform and offers Writer, which "has everything you would expect from a modern, fully equipped word processor or desktop publisher."
Re: Using Laptop at Internet Cafes for downloading
Many thanks, Sluice44.
I'd like to download one of the packages referred to, but I don't have email/internet/broadband access at home. If I bring my wireless-enabled laptop to any internet cafe and use my yahoo email address, is it possible to do some downloading software that way?
Thanks,
