Deposit Interest Retention Tax Query (DIRT)

Hi
Not sure if this is the correct forum - please it move if not.

Is a deposit account belonging to a national school liable for DIRT. I am on the board of a school and we have a sizable amount of money in a deposit account and we have been charged DIRT on the interest.

Just wondering if the schools come under some sort of charitable status?

It's not a general tax exemption, so the question is has your particular school applied to the Revenue for exemption from income tax?
There will be a CHY number, if so, which should be quoted to the bank. If registered, the school should be exempt from DIRT.
