Deposit for a private buy

Buying a car, agreed a price. Seller and buyer happy. Sale dependent on car passing NCT. NCT not due for 3 weeks. Seller would like a deposit. Id rather not give cash. What to do to keep both parties happy? Dated cheque?

Post date the check until you receive confirmation of the car passing nct , the day of or a day after the test.....cant think of anything else to keep both parties happy......

Just be careful though postdating, there are people out there that will just initial the cheque and lodge it anyway. Get friendly with them and give them your word, hopefully they'll trust you enough. It's hardly your fault that NCT is not for 3 weeks, say if it was tomorrow then you'd be taking it tomorrow.

You can book an NCT early.
