Greetings everybody,
Looking through my pension details recently there is benefit to dependants in the event of my death etc. However I am unmarried and wondering is it generally possible to direct benefits in the way that you can direct assets in ur will to certain people. I have written to the trustees of my DC as yet without reply.
Thanks v much.

Not sure about the pension but in my current job I remember having to fill out a form nominating the beneficiary of stuff like the life assurance etc. with a requirement that a married employee get a waiver from their spouse if assigning it to somebody else. However I don't know (a) if/how this might apply to pensions and (b) if statutory spousal rights can be abrogated even through agreement by the affected spouse (probably not) and (c) how legally binding this assignment might be in Ireland (it's a US company).
Thanks guys, I am only 27 but if you hadn't got dependant wives/children it would be nice to think you could direct it somewhere without hassel. Suppose u have to think of these things! I will explore the letter of 'wishes'
