Hi,

I have had to get an appliance to wear at night from my dentist for a problem I have with my jaw locking.

Does anyone know if I can claim the cost of this back? I am a medical card holder.

Any advice appreciated!

I think your entitlement to claim anything back from your Local Health Office regarding the appliance provided by your dentist, will depend on whether it is considered by the HSE as a medical appliance or not.

Medical cards normally cover the cost of medical appliances, so you ought to check with your Local Health Office for advice.

I don't think the cost of this appliance would be covered under the routine dental services provided by your medical card.
