I have a dell inspiron 1721 and it's in need of a new battery from a reliable source.

I have checked the dell website and they are quite expensive at 160euros plus shipping.

Hardly worth buying seen as the laptop is fairly old now.

Any suggestions?

I operate my old Dell directly from the mains all the time. The battery died years ago.
 
Search ebay ... I've bought Dell batteries (from Irish suppliers) for around the €50 mark.

I've even got spares on my shelf!

Very true but the problem is the connection where the power goes in is quite loose and it keeps popping out and can become quite annoying when it shuts down due to no battery power..
