The ESP light has been on on my 2000 Golf 1.9tDi for a while now. There has also been a noticeable drop in power available. It's gotten really sluggish.
Anyway took it to the diagnostics and was told the engine temperature sensor was shot (not a problem, only 20 squid) and that the lateral motion sensor was also defective. This was the one causing the problem with the loss of power. I was then told that this sensor costs around 300 Euros.
I want to sell the car so don't want to stick alot of money into it. The scrap-yard told me that each sensor is individual to each car so can't be got out of a wreck. I find this very hard to believe!!!! Anyone any ideas?
Is it a question, perhaps, of the sensor being specific to a particular specification i.e. the sensor from a 1.6 petrol won't go into a 1.9 diesel?
