Hello,
I am sealing the inside and outside of a ~70 year rented house from persistent slug intrusions.
The front perimeter concrete path has cracks along most of the wall base, about 1/8" - 1/4" wide, over 1/2" in some places. Many slugs of all sizes and other insects emerge from these cracks at sundown and climb the walls. They appear to be entering the house under or at the base of the wall, and/or through gaps near the eaves (I am sealing these too).
The depths of the cracks or sizes of internal voids are unknown, however pouring water from a 2L bottle in at least two places does not bring the water level up to the surface.
I plan on sealing at least the top 1/2" - 1" of the concrete gap with cement.
Is there a recommended technique for filling deep withing the cracks prior to surface cement with e.g., a pourable (or low viscosity) cement, or an expanding foam filler ?
Is there a way to encourage the slugs/insects to vacate the cracks without killing them (I can displace at least some of them by duct-taping a couple of hours after sundown).
Thank you.
