My mother has to build an extension for my dad who is disabled, she is short of money and I plan to help her, I read that if I give her money I can get tax relief through deed of covenant. Does anyone have any experience of this, is it a lump sum or can you give a set amount over time.

Many thanks

If you are going to go down this route and it may be better to to make the deed out in your fathers name.
If you make it out in your mothers name she must be over 65 and you will be restricted by the 5% rule.
The deed must be capable of running greater than 6 years although it can be stopped at any time AFAIK.

Before you do anything contact the housing section of your local county council. See [broken link removed] for Fingal Co Co. They all do something similar.

Can anyone clarify what the definition of a permanently incapacitated individual is, and what documentation is required to prove such status?
