We have a family grave which has a considerable amount of decorative stones similar to countless other graves around the country. However these stones have become dirty and grubby. Is there an effective means of cleaning/washing them or is it a case of replacing them ??

Depends on how ingrained the dirt is. Try collecting some and putting into a container like a paint can, quarter fill with the stone, another quarter water. Shake vigorously and empty stone out into a suitable [broken link removed]. If after a rinse you're happy with the results.....repeat ad nauseam!

When I was laying stones in my front garden I found the bags were full of sand / grit. I emptied the stones into a large garden trug that I had drilled holes into the bottom of propped up on a couple of bricks and then hosed them off in that so the dirt would drain away. Wasn't hugely fast, but did the job.
