ah no, openoffice from www.openoffice.org is free and will output a .doc as a .pdf, it will replace MS Office more or less totally unless you use a lot of MS Access
I use PDF995 to convert any on screen item to PDF. You can download it at www.pdf995.com. Can use without payment if you want to put up with adverts popping up each time you use or buy it for $9.95 or with other products from the suite for $19.95
I use http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ and find it does the job perfectly. You print documents to it just like you'd use any printer. Only downside would be if you have to manipulate the PDF first
you can also register an account with www.adobe.com and they let you convert documents to PDF for free , no adverts or anything , you just upload the file to their site and they email the conversion straight away
