Any idea how long this takes?

Does the death cert take longer if the deceased had covid but there was no post-mortem?

Do insurance companies accept "interim" certs?

Unless there's going to be an inquest, you should have no delay in getting death certificate. You bring form you're given by hospital/hospice/treating doctor to Registry office after making appointment to meet Registrar.

It depends on the circumstances. If they died in hospital or a nursing home, you will be given a death notification form, usually takes a few days to come out. Otherwise, and assuming there is no need for a coroner then who ever certifies the death at home should supply that. You can then take this to the Register to get the formal death Cert. End to end, it should only take a few days.
