Looks like anyone who can prove they tried to submit a callback request to the Pension helpline before the 5 April 2025 deadline, will be allowed to proceed with the top-up process.

Gist of the article here:

"Although this April's deadline still stands, there will now be some leeway for anyone who struggles to get through on the phone.
Anyone who is unable to make contact with the DWP ahead of the deadline can use an online call-back request form.
People who submit a call-back request by the 5 April deadline will still be able to pay voluntary National Insurance Contributions back to April 2006, after the deadline has passed.
Anyone in this position should save a screenshot of their call-back confirmation message. A return call should come within eight weeks."
 
Best then to follow the advice of posting the CF38 by recorded delivery.
 
Applied for online for my Dad, but based on that article above, (not sure how accurate that is,) would it be overkill to print off and send by registered post as well , he is also over the state pension age.
 
If you got an online receipt by email should be fine, I intend to post my PRSI record from Ireland in hardcopy too

The deadline, which has already been extended twice, is April 5th, after which no new applications will be entertained, UK authorities have said. From April 6th, the ability to purchase additional contributions will be limited to the last six years.

However, due to a rush of last-minute enquiries, especially from expats and people from other countries who once worked in the UK, and the complexity of the process, people have been struggling to get through to Britain’s department of works and pensions' (DWP) future pension centre to make their claim.

As a result, the department is now allowing some leeway. Anyone who fills in a form requesting a callback from DWP staff before the April 5th deadline will be considered not to have missed the deadline. The form can be found here and anyone using it is advised to screenshot it before returning it to the department.

Again, its a variation on 'get your claim in before the deadline & we will honour it'.

Saying the deadline is 'softened' is misleading. At 00.01 on 6th April, the deadline is passed.

No one should be sitting on their hands at this stage.

I wonder does Dominic Coyle realise that his article is directing people to a commercial website designed to attract business ie the so called National Pensions Helpline?! I would have thought that some kind of warning or explanation should accompany any such linking to commercial websites.
 
It seems clear to me that it's a commercial site.

It would be better that he direct people to DannyBoy and Askaboutmoney but a lot of people need the push and hand holding so I see no problem. He also quotes Xtrapension.
 
Several people, including a few posters here on Askaboutmoney, have mistakenly thought that the National Pensions Helpline site was an official government or quango site. The name and the way it pitches itself is very, and deliberately?, misleading. If also contains a lot of incorrect and misleading information.
