Hello,
I would like to ask if i can get any help with electricity/gas bills ? I am one parent of two children, and one of them with special needs/disability. My income now is 217 eu /week; and DCA (309 eu) and child benefit (280); I got huge airtricity bill recently (600 eu) ... Thanks.
 
There is no specific assistance with electricity or gas bills, however you can apply for a once-off exceptional needs payment from the SWA Officer, based at either the local SW office or HSE health centre. You will have to show that the bill was high due to unforeseen and exceptional circumstances, and that you have been paying the bill up to now. If you have made arrangements with the utility company to deal with the arrears, you should bring details of that along to the SWA officer too.

Your weekly income is 217 per week - this suggests you are only being paid for one child, or is there other income or means assessed (apart from DCA and Child Benefit)? The maximum rate of payment for one adult and 2 children is 188 + 29.80x2 = 247.60 euro pw.

Im getting for one child-my another daughter is 14 now and she is not entitled anymore..My bills was paid up to date, it was just too cold and i wanted avoid any infections (any lung infections could be fatal for my sick daughter), so i had keep warm apartment.. it just very disappointing everything-iv been working 23 years and never asked for any help nowhere and now having baby with disability i cant get back to work and money im geting is just to pay bills and eat cheep pasta...
 
Week before i left to officer all bills since i moved in to house. And letter, explaining situation-that my daughter had second hearth operation, that almost 5 weeks i had to travel to hospital every day, sometimes twice a day, that had extra expences. Today i went to ask about what they decided. And officer send me to MABS. Did he wanted to say, that i cant manage my income?? Bit humiliating, i think..
 
The local CWO can issue you a payment to help you with travelling expenses, every day sometimes twice a day to the hospital is a lot. It could be €20 to €40 a week which would help somewhat.
