what day is everyone finishing up for xmas next week and what date is everyone back to work

finished 4.00pm wednesday 21st return to work 3rd of Jan.... 2 and a bit days to go and counting....

Ho Ho Ho, I am finishing TODAY :D and off until Jan 3rd ... I always keep some of my annual leave for the Christmas Hols...

I'm currently living in England and have always kept annual leave over till Christmas so I could "make" the holiday for elderly relatives in Dublin. The last of these (my mother) is now dead but I keep the tradition of having time from Christmas Eve to just after New Year as a chance to reflect on the year past, a time to centre myself and get back to my own personal values and think about the immediate future. I've always loved the tradition of "seeing off" the old year and "welcoming in" the new but you need a perspective to do it from (and life is getting so hectic and stupifyingly busy nobody has time for that anymore). I've got an advantage here insofar as my BIRTHDAY is on 1st January!

If you can manage it, organise time off between Christmas and New Year. When you think about it, in the history of the species this was a time of practical HIBERNATION! Hang on to a space to think and to dream and rest.

Spare a thought for those of us in the retail trade.finish christmas eve around 5 (hopefully) and back in on the morning of the 27th. Two days off ! not looking forward to my 12 hr shifts starting monday !

Finishing on a half day on Friday.
We were supposed to be finishing on Thursday but then the Boss changed his mind at the last minute, because the office down the road is open on Friday. Grrr.

Finishing Thursday and back on Tuesday 4th Jan - whoohoo!

Having said that, the week is crawling so far...

"Finished last Friday and not back until 4th Jan. Burning off some unused leave"

Maybe its just me but I always feel its a waste to keep hols. for Christmas. Most of us already get quite a few days off and it can get quite boring at times except where kids are still young. Its generally easier to get to work because the traffic is lighter. For the more conscientious workers :) you can get a lot done because phones don't normally ring very much and most offices are quieter. IMHO summer with hopefully warm weather seems a better option for using up annual leave.

I agrree with sueellen on this, its easier to work over christmas, and you have the bank holidays to get you in the mood.
But it much better to take leave when everyone else is stuck at there desks.

Your premise about conscientious workers not taking Christmas Holidays is wrong :)

I used to subscribe to that view but now find it more convenient to be out when the business is taking a pause. I go into the office early to get quiet time during the rest of the year.

I have to say that I love teh christmas break. I will not venture neer the office during the break unless to go onto aam.
We are closing thursday at 1.00 and reopen on tuesday 3rd. I do not take the extra few days holidays out of secetarys holidays more as a present for work done during the year on top of bonus.
must be geting soft.
