There was something about this in the media recently. I think Senator Fergal Quinn was pushing the idea that we switch to Central European Time. I think we would have brighter evenings but darker mornings.
Unless you finish work by 4pm you're probably not going to get any daylight in the evenings from December to february with or without daylight savings, so you may as well get some on the way into work (Unless you're in before 8am).
A standard 9-5 worker will get more daylight outside of working hours with daylight savings as far as I know.
