A bit of a mad question, but is there any way of finding out if a person has bought a property overseas?

A person in general or a particular person? If it's the latter then you could presumably ask them.

A particular person. And I kinda thought of that one.lol. Thank you anyway, obviously no such registry.

Perhaps there's no such registry in Ireland, but if you had an idea of the country, and that country had a registry, then you could search from there!

There is no such database in Ireland, and imho that is a good thing

why would you want to know...........being noisey!

Or alternatively a legitimate reason such in an inheritance or marriage separation context?

pokerwidow, I know for Croatia and Slovenia, you can contact the registry office (land) and find out that way. Alternatively in some of the EU countries you can find out via EU sources (in Germany I recovered a lost mortgage number by calling an assistance office in Frankfurt).

In Budapest I got a copy of the details of all the apartment owners for a new apartment building in Budapest from the land registry.

90% of the owners a have Irish address's. I'm thinking of writing to them all to set up a residences association.

I do think that it's not too difficult to find the names of property owners in any Euro country for a particular building or apartment but I would say there would be no way of finding out if a particular person has any property abroad unless you knew were the property was.
