Damp Floor

I have noticed that the carpet at the edge of my front room is damp. I bought a moisture detector and it shows a lot of dampness in the concrete floor where it meets an internal wall. There is a smaller reading on the other side of the wall. It is leaving a musty smell in the room and recently we have noticed wood lice around the house. The house is about 15 years old.
Any suggestions

I had that problem when we lived in Mayo. House was built in the 70`s and was a split level house which meant it was coming up from the basement!!!

This was over 14 years ago, prior to all info on the web so I sourced a book in the library which was excellent as to how to tackle the problem of damp. I would suggest getting advice from a small time builder, who would have more knowledge of all aspects of houses. If you are living in a small or medium size town, get out there and find these guys and talk to them - the specialised companies dealing with damp are good but expensive. I woud advise now that the weather is good, to take up the carpet and let the fresh air at it.

In my case, I got a builder who found more damp in my chimney and sorted it but before we got tackling the floor problem our jobs moved us to another part of the country and we sold the house. Best of luck.
