Damage to walls

Sorry, first post, new here and I tried a search but couldn't work it out.

I might be paranoid, but I've a couple of typical teenage kids who insist on hanging pictures of who or whatever is popular this week on their bedroom walls. They use anything they get their hands on the hang these from thumb tacks, nails, screws, you name it. They keep changing as well, so I'm getting worried about all the holes in the walls.

I've been told it's a 'timber frame' house, the walls all seem a little flimsy to me as I was rasied in houses with solid walls. I'm afraid the walls are going to fall down around me, or heaven forbid the kids! Am I right to be worried?

Yes, but not for the reasons you've implied. Timber frame buildings require a vapour check on the inside to prevent water vapour migrating through the wall (this is a known phenomenon ). Putting a lot of holes in it it like turning on a tap in a bath - if water flo9ws into it faster than the bath can empty, it will fill up. Moisture lodging in insulation can cause problems including damp, mould growth and reduced effectiveness of the insulation. Also services are ducted in the walls, so poking holes in them willy-nilly is unwise. They need to use non-invasive mechanical methods like blue tack or sellotape or whatever, or for for permanent fixing use the little plastic "hooks" with multiple tiny pins on the back that don't go through the plasterboard. ONQ [broken link removed] All advice on AAM is remote from the situation and cannot be relied upon as a defence or support - in and of itself - should legal action be taken. Competent legal and building professionals should be asked to advise in Real Life with rights to inspect and issue reports on the matters at hand.

Give your kids a packet of blutack each and fine them €5 for every thumbtack / nail / screw that you find in their bedroom walls from now on. Should solve your problem and you may make a small profit in the meantime
