Daily Volumes of Shares Traded

I've an amateur interest in following trends in stock market trading and have been watching various shares on the Irish Stock Exchange over the past few months. I notice that daily volumes traded in one of the banks are consistently in the tens of millions of shares, while movements in the share price are very small.

Could someone of our experts explain what is going on here and what the underlying strategies of the professionals might be. I realise individual stocks cannot be discussed but in general perhaps.
