Hi folks, I have read the available posts concerning central vacuuming systems. I have had a quote from Beam and from Cyclovac who are based in Dungarvan in Co. Waterford. I have found and read the posts regarding Beam. I cannot find any posts about Cyclovac and am just wondering if anyone has used Cyclovac and how did you find them?

Re: Central Vacuum System

Look at Vacuflo. Just had one fitted. (Not connected to the co.). They use a retractable hose that disappears into the wall when not in use. Very handy.

Re: Central Vacuum System

Thanks biffo will take a look and possibly give them an opportunity to quote

Hi, I have just DIY fitted a Beam system. I also looked at the cyclovac and was impressed by them also, and the lads in Dungravan seem very nice to deal with. For my Beam system, I dealt with Joe Sharpey in Bantry and he couldn't have been more helpful with advice on how to do the job myself. In the end I felt the Beam had the edge, but no real justification in saying that! One thing I liked about the beam was that there was no filter to replace. If you have a very big house, some of the cyclovacs seem to be more powerful than the largest Beam.

Also got a quote from vacuflo, but wasn't overly impressed, but again no real concrete reason for saying this!

If you are interested in the hose which retracts into the wall I know that cyclovac will fit this for you also, although they don't seem to push this option. Beam do not use the system. While this system seems great at first look, I am sceptical enough about it. Firstly, in a lot of cases you will need to extend the length of pipework in your system to allow space for the retractable hose to fit into. Also I didn't like the idea of pulling the hose out of the dirty central vacuum pipe. Just have a feeling that after a few years hose would start to get fairly grubby.

Hi rmdt, thanks for that, I have spoken to Joe already and got a quote from him. However I am leaning towards cyclovac but as you have already mentioned there isnt much between the 2 systems. (Although cyclovac have the better quote by about 8%) Thanks again

One thing I liked about the beam was that there was no filter to replace.

Just be careful of what you hear about "self cleaning" filters. If some one tells you they are self cleaning...ignore it. My brother learned the hard way. He found this video on youtube...

Also in the manual for one system with a "self cleaning" filter you will find instructions how to clean the self cleanig filter. Contradictorary I thought.

Goretex, the main material used in the construction of the filter of my brothers vacuum system, is used for its breathable qualities, not it's non-stick qualities.
I am still weighing up my options. Won't be starting our house for another few months.
