I can't see why you still can't change whenever you want? As it stands, BT's deal is the cheapest going when it comes to fixed line dsl broadband. The only other cheaper alternative may be wireless (although many of them charge the same for what is a poorer product) as you can do away with line rental - but the service more often than not is inferior to fixed line. The same with 'mobile' 'broadband'.
One positive thing to come out of this is billing. Billing was always BT Irelands achilles. I'd imagine 90% of their customers gripes concerned inaccurate bills going out. Vodafone couldn't possibly do any worse in this respect.
