Hi, anybody got an idea of custom charges ex vat on an electric product made in the US. Total is €18,000 which includes €1,500 delivery. It will be used for business. How do they calculate this on new products?
Thanks in advance

you can check with customs for the duty rate on the product VAT is charged on the "landed cost" cif .Make sure the product works on our voltage

What is the product? Yes, you can check with HMRC.

Import VAT (at 15%) is charged on the CIF value, PLUS any customs duty, i.e. on a duty inclusive value.

Bear in mind that Askaboutmoney is an Irish site focusing primarily on Irish personal finance and related issues. So while the reference to HMRC and rates above is correct for somebody in the UK (including NI) it's not correct for somebody in the Republic of Ireland. I wish our VAT rate was 15%! :(
