Folks,
not sure if this is the right forum or not so bear with me.
I need to transfer Euro amounts (4 figure sums) into foreign currency accounts overseas.
Now does anyone have any recommendations on currency exchange companies, online websites or would they just rely on the banks to do it ?
You first have to register with Transfermate. When you want to transfer money you can do so by phone or online. I have only done so by phone. They give you a transfer rate and you then transfer money to their AIB account within 3 days. They will then transfer it on to whatever foreign account you have nominated. You will have to provide the account details. Just be doubly sure that the sort code and account are spot on. You will recieve confirmation e-mail that money has been transferred and you then just need to check that the money has arrived in your chosen account. I have dealt with 2 girls, Ciara and Ann Marie and they are both excellent. You could phone either of them and I'm sure they will be very helpful with the details of registering.
I have used CurrencyFair, which I found to be straightforward and convenient.
It is a peer-to-peer currency exchange service. I.e. it does for currency exchange what BetFair does for gambling.
They claim to be a lot better value than the banks. The only drawback is that they are not suitable for short-term holiday cash, because you need to have a bank account in the foreign currency you are converting to.
