I am interested in learning about currency trading/commodity trading etc. and how these operate, how to make money on them etc. Could anyone point me to somewhere I might learn the basics.

Thanks

Trading either of these assets is 'risky' due to the fact that markets are very volatile.

Not sure if commodity trading is suited to the small time guy, other than through funds, ETFs, companies who derive their income from commodities.

Forex is a different matter-anyone can do it easily enough (i.e. access it)-even through the likes of Delta Index when you can bet on spreads.

I can't recommed any educational resources, but Google will have loads of suggestions I'm sure.

Here is a recent thread on Commodities for beginners

If you search for 'forex' you might find some relevant reading. Also, browse the 'Great Financial Debates' for related discussion, where some posters discuss strategies and methods.

Some banks/brokers have free daily commentary e-mails that are worth reading, e.g. Anglo Irish Bank. The Economist is also a good read.

What has attracted you to commodities and currencies?

What is your appetite for risk?

You will find loads of useful info by Googling " currency trading " or "mini forex". Your ultimate success will depend more on exemplary money management skills , your reaction to losses and perseverance more than any fundamental or technical approach that you apply to your trading. Read as much as you can about forex for a few months, paper trade the market after that, open a mini forex account and trade it for a few months to test your strategies and finally move to the main market.
