Currency in Egypt

Could anyone tell me what currency would be the best to bring to Egypt on holidays? I know most places in Egypt will accept US Dollars but dont know whats most used. Any help is greatly appreciated.
 
Was in Egypt last year and brought some Euros for emergency but was able to withdraw cash at the ATMs there with AIB Laser card. Any use?
 
I was in Egypt in November. In the main, I brought US$ traveler cheques (yes, I know, how antiquated!) and Egyptian Pounds. I also brought a few US$ in cash and needed them as soon as I arrived at the airport to buy the tourist Visa (US$15). Single dollars are very useful as tips.

A lot of the fixed price shops and tour companies quote prices in US$ and accept them for payment.

If I were going again, I'd bring more dollars and fewer Egyptian Pounds!
 
Dollars are the currency of choice most of the time, although sterling is usually acceptable too. I used Egyptian pounds for taxis, meals, etc. fixed price items and used sterling or dollars when shopping for bargains - better negotiating power!
