Does anyone know if there's a plan to decentralize the CSO (currently based in Dublin suprisingly enough).. I used to have a list of towns and departments but can't seem to find one now.. If anyone has one can they post the info or a link please ? thanks.

I though that the [broken link removed] was successfully decentralised to Cork over 10 years ago.

and it looks like they also have sub offices in [broken link removed] and in [broken link removed]

ps Is this a jobs/careers related question? If not Ill move it to a more relevant section.

There are approx 400 CSO staff at Skehard Road, Mahon Cork. I'd call that decentralised alright.

more than 500 in Cork i think. about 100+ in Rathmines. Swords is for the census. Senior management is split between Cork and Dublin.

OK great - thanks for the info -I didn't know they were based in Cork. They have a position for statistician posted up right now and it references decentralization so I was wondering if they are moving people again ( I guess they just put this in to cover themselves in case for the future). thanks.

Hi DiA,

The position of statistician with the cso has been discussed at lenght here before. If I find the link Ill post it here.

The link is...

It was "Job of the week" on the front page of the Money and Jobs supplement in the Examiner last Saturday.

the decentralising is only really relevant if you get seconded to another government dept which is decentralising. I think at this point in time its pretty much standard for any job ad for public service to include that caveat.
the stats jobs more or less go 50:50 cork and dublin.

Legend99 is right. I recently started working there as a statistician (got taken from the last panel). The only way to decentralise is to apply for a rotation between Dublin and Cork, or to apply for a decentralising stat position with another government department. The unions are arguing at the moment about whether specialist\technical civil servants should be allowed decentralise into general admin grades, but I personally couldn't see that happening....
