Anyone recommend a cruise for an elderly lady travelling alone? Fit and healthy (i.e. no meds), perhaps a little unsteady on her feet. Looking to socialise, maybe share cabin. Warm climes preferred.

Anyone got any experience to share?

Thanks.

Spent one of the most enjoyable holidays ever on a cruise with Royal Carribean Cruises.

The ships are basically large 5 star floating hotels. With a huge amount of facilities on board, and also calling to different ports every 2nd day.

Not sure about an elderly lady travelling alone- you could check with the company regarding any sharing or OAP arrangements which they may have.

I would recommend the company no hassel, as we were very well taken care of.

Sounds like Cunard to me... the QE2 is one of the few ships left with single cabins...

On most lines she would still pay for two....

have you looked at [broken link removed] - mama bear is looking into it as she is a widow and loves travelling. Also map travel [broken link removed] organise tours and alot of older single people go on these. My mum has been on a few of their trips and raves about them..

Royal Carribbean is the way to go ~ Worked for them for 8 years ~ I would sugest an Alaskian or Panama crusie ~ the view from you port hole or balcony will be amazing .

Would second this...my widowed aunt has used them on a few occasions and was very happy with the experiences.

Have cruised with Royal Caribbean several times and was always very happy with everything.

The Travel Department organise escorted tours and cruises combined which could suit her, as she would be travelling with an Irish group and transfers etc shouldn't cause much difficulty. There may be an opportunity to share a cabin also. I would recommend that she take at least an outside cabin to experience the views. For example they have a Med Cruise & Lake Garda package advertised for September and a Med Cruise in October. If you would like to have a look it's at

I have used The Travel Dept for previous trips (but not cruises) and was pleased with the service we received.

I know a 72 year old who travels quite a lot with the above company. They do cater for all ages though. She is also a little unsteady on her feet but is well looked after so she says, and all the age groups mix in together.
