Credit union nomination

Is a credit union account which has been nominated by a deceased person part of the “legal estate” of that person?

It seems it is not to me as it it not administered as part of the will

Can the nominated amount be used to pay expenses of the deceased’s estate?

Appreciate any information on this.

From reading this it is clear the nominated sum (once below the specified limit) is not part of the deceased persons estate.
