My partner & I are applying for a mortgage through a broker.

Broker called yesterday to tell say that one of the banks he applied to had found that my boyfriend missed 2 payments on his car loan 5 years ago.I thought there was a limit to the number of years banks could go back into history & that it was less than 5.

How many years of your credit history are banks allowed to check up on?

Any advice would be appreciated as we are quite worried about this now.

Tks

I would consider that a fairly minor lapse - a good explanation of the circumstances causing the missing payments should suffice for most banks
