Credit card vs. debit card purchase protections

I've always considered credit cards to give better protection.
Each providers T&Cs will no doubt differ, making comparison more difficult.
One thing that I have noticed over the years, is that the few times when I've had to dispute a payment, it's always been easier to do when it's with a credit card provider, then my debit card provider. Part of me has always felt that was down to the fact that the card provider didn't seem to care as much, when it was my money that had been debited, rather than theirs (ie a credit card payment that I hadn't been billed for yet, or has refused to pay).
