Credit Card charge on foreign transactions?

Hi all

quick question, i have had an AIB credit card for about 5 years. last week they sent me a letter saying theyre going to charge me 1.75% additional from now on for all foreign currency purchases made

Can anyone tell me if this is normal> considering changing to halifax or some other provider as i tend to buy a lot of goods on line (shopping around etc)
