Hope this is the correct forum, sorry for long post and hope I don't violate the no medical issues discussion rule..
My 8 year old broke her front tooth running in crèche (well in a community centre the crèche bring them to every week). After seeing specialist this is an issue that is going to be ongoing needing regular check-ups, possible root canal, more than likely multiple re-fillings and ultimately resulting in a crown in her mid twenties with all that entails.
As she has 24-hour insurance through the school I would be hoping to get her dental treatment covered through this. Last night the reality hit me and I got a glimpse of what is ahead for her. Nervous patient so they are going to use sedation for the 2 hour appointment booked to try to build the tooth up. Am dreading dealing with her before, during and after when I can only console and not take it away.
Do I just accept this is an unfortunate accident (she thinks her laces might have been open). Do I hope the expenses are covered under the school 24-hour and leave it at that. Is it up to our own moral fibre as to whether we would place a personal injury claim? Claiming is not in our nature but I am starting to feel a parents responsibility to do the best that I possibly can for my child. I am sure the crèche staff were not negligent (except perhaps if the laces were open and it was not spotted). I accept that this could have happened anywhere under anyone's care. I want my child to run in school and crèche. It is only a tooth and nothing more serious.
Would anyone have any advice or experience?
Can we claim off the school 24-hour insurance in this case?
If I claim off the crèche insurance could this put the crèche under with increased premiums etc.
Could I continue to keep my children in crèche or would the relationship be ruined in this case?
I read up last night and believe the 2-year personal injury time limit starts when a child reaches their 18th birthday so do we claim off school insurance now and let her decide when she is an adult? What if the crèche is closed at that stage?
There is no question that we would pay whatever is necessary to get the best job done - do we pay and just accept that this is one of the prices of parenthood?
Thanks
