Court Fees/Stamp Duty Query

can anyone explain the purpose of Court Fees? eg. it costs €20.00 to get a summons stamped in the district court? why are these fees necessary etc?


are court fees stamp duty? or are they distinct charges?

Fees are paid for a service.

As far as I know they are separate.

It is a form of taxation.

Sadly there is no refund system. E.g. a Civil Process might be stamped and then it may be found that there is some error in it which requires it be changed and re-printed. New version has also to be stamped with the requisite fee with no refund for the version now being shredded.
