Couple had to pay €310,000 for backing out of Foxrock house purchase after signing, court hears

Terry and Janet Byrne forfeited their €75,000 deposit and were later pursued for the shortfall after the subsequent sale to other buyers

In 2006, the couple signed contracts for €2.1m and paid a deposit of €75k
They pulled out of the purchase
The vendors sold the house for a lower amount and sued them for the difference.
The case was settled by the couple paying a further €237k

In 2012, the couple began a legal action against their solicitor claiming the they advised them before the signing of the contracts in October 2006 that their total exposure if the sale did not complete was the loss of their deposit.

11 years, later the case against the solicitor is still going on.
