Hey guys
Myself and my fiancé moved in together 6 months ago, we moved from Dublin to Clare as we could get cheaper rent and we couldn't get anywhere cheaper in Dublin.
We're both on social welfare and when we moved in they cut both of us from €188 each to €156 each a week. We've gone without firewood and gone cold this Christmas and I've just been means tested this week. I'm so worried if I get cut, we just cant spread any thinner.

We want to move back to Dublin because we miss our families and find some work as we've tried down here and there's nothing, will they means test us differently if Dublin has higher rental rates? At the moment were paying €320 a month for a cottage, but for €400 in Dublin we can only get a single room together
Also we won't know until after we've moved what rate well get
Any advice?

€1248-00 + per month less €320-00 for housing leaves you with €928-00 and you don't have enough to heat a cottage? What am I missing here? There are some people working and raising a family on that.

The means test for your jobseeker payments will be the same in Dublin as it is now.

Are you on Rent supplement now? If you are, then you know that you are required to make a minimum contribution towards your rent - currently €42 per week for 2 adults on jobseekers.

That minimum contribution will remain the same if you rent in Dublin and qualify for rent supplement.
