Council Houses on Private Estate

I was planning on buying a house in a private estate but on talking to people in the area I was told that the council had bought houses in the estate. The esate is apprx 5 years old and there are about 400 houses in there. I was just wondering how would I go about finding out how many houses were bought by the council in the estate. Would the council give out such information?

Ring the council and ask. In normal terms shouldn't 10% of the estate already belong to the council anyway? I know many developers bought the council out but it would be strange to hear they were both bought out and then purcahsed in the same estate. It would be really worth a news story if that happened.

councils buy small numbers of houses in many private estates, they usually put single mothers etc in them and they dont affect local house prices and shouldnt be an issue for you .

In any new estate the council will have 20% of the houses so I doubt if they have more than this on the one that you are looking at which means you will be better than the going average compared to if you moved in to a new estate. The councill probably did not get any of this estate at initial build time.
