Hi - hoping for some ballpark figures here. We are hoping to change a single/standard back door to replace with French doors to bring more light in at the back of the house. The work involved would be removing current door and making more space in external wall to allow for French doors. Any estimations for costs?

We recently had french doors fitted where we had a sliding patio door , Double opening and a panel on either side , It cost 750.00 euro for french doors including fitting but it was the same width so no knocking of a wall, Surely to knock a section of wall while supporting it and some plastering would not come 5 grand .

Firstly price the doors you want ,huge differences and take it from there .where you live is also a factor

Where did you pluck those figures from  :(

I’m no expert, but the earlier post is not a like for like comparison.

Replacing a sliding door with french doors, fine, although €750 sounds a bit light to me.

But doesn’t replacing a standard door with french doors means supports, an RSJ, brickwork, etc? Just far greater complexity all round.

I vaguely recall about EUR2,000 for doors from a Blanche comany which fitted them southside Dublin.

We had some problems with heat expansion of the frames in the sun, so be wary of that.

Another 1 with heat expansion from the sun.it drives me mad.
Ours cost €3500 and we had too get a small RSJ put in,brickwork and plastering done.we also needed a socket moved.
Dublin city

We have two French doors going rotten at the base. Got lots of quotes. Average price was about €4500 to replace both doors.

single door to Double door needs an RSJ, propping Up, plaster, paint, floor work, etc.
proper French doors that are any good cost money. Making sure they are fitted properly, ie airtight, and the door itself stay that way, cost money.
fixing the details, like paintwork and flooring, is often forgotten, and will add a few quid.

To be honest, you can get this done for less, but the doors will be rubbish. Your choice.
