We are currently doing some renovation to our house. We got a quote for putting down a solid wooden floor in our sitting room (23M2), hall way and a laminate floor for a bedroom `14M2).
The quote was 1780 as the guy said he would have to put on new saddles, new skirtings and take down the doors and sand a bit off the end.
This quote seems very high
What do you think?

Anne,

In my opinion this is very high.
I work in the general industry and believe that a figure off approximately €1000 (inc. VAT) would be closer to the mark.
I presume you are supplying the materials and the above is a quote for labour only?

Yes I am supplying the material, I was a bit disappointed as this guy is doing some other work for us at the moment. I would have expected it to be around 1200.

That's sounds extortionate to me. I've put down laminate flooring myself and it was quite easy I bought a jig saw to cut it. How long will it take to do the job. How about you go to where you bought the material, the guys there should have an idea of price to lay flooring.

When we renovated our bathroom we had a solid oak floor put down. The chippie took approximately six hours to lay the new floor. Bathroom is 12ft x 8ft and the new floor boards are 4.5 inches X 3/4 inch thick tongue and groove. All boards were secret nailed. Time includes using the same boards for skirting boards (after removing tongues of course.)
