cost of installing a new gas boiler

I have just moved into an old (1950s) 3-bed semi and I need to upgrade or replace the gas boiler. Its an ugly unit built into the fireplace with a gas fire in front of it. There is a pump next to it with unsightly copper pipes from it going up through the roof. Got a guy in who tells me its probably cheaper to entirely replace the central heating system (incl all new rads) than upgrading the existing boiler and getting the pump/pipes moved. Price quote due in a few days. Anyone got any idea what I should expect? Or know of someone else to check for a comparison price (Dun Laoghaire area)? Thanks

Expect a shock!
I got a quote for replacing oil boiler with gas boiler. It was between €3-4k.
This didn't include rads or anything.

Bord gas will also charge you (a lot) to connect to their supply.

A modern modulating combi condensing boiler costs around €2500, depending on the size and the make. As long as your radiators are good enough there is no reason to exchange them when you have to be keen on the spendings. New modern boilers come including the pump and the expansion barrel in one unit all together. They need no chimney, a ventilation hole in the wall similar to that of a cooker hood is fine. So they can be placed anywhere, even in the attic.
Check the Sedbuk page for the different makers at http://www.sedbuk.com/ and see what the manufacturers have on offer. Don't go for any thing less than 90% efficiency , even a Firebird boiler can achieve that nowadays.
