I am going to New York in a few weeks and hope to have some cosmetic dentisty done (veneers etc.) while there as
a) I presume it will be cheaper than here ??
b) More up to date methods??
c) the weak dollar.....
Has anybody had experience of this???? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you.................

I presume it will be cheaper than here ??

Have you any basis for this presumption. Medical care is notoriously expensive in the US. Dunno if the same applies for dentistry but I would be surprised if it is cheap.

Its so expensive here that I thought the US must be cheaper......and as its probably more common over there also...

If youre traveling specifically for dental work...I would think about a less expensive country. The Americans themselves go to latin America for cheap dentistry and plastic surgery. Ask your GP for a recommendation of a clinic where the Dental Surgeons are trained and qualified by the Royal College of Surgeons to practice in Europe.

In places like Thailand there are state of the art dedicated dental hospitals which would put many hospitals to shame and where the surgeons got their doctorates etc in Oxford/harley street etc and are insured and have all the bona fides youd expect. In such a case the biggest cost is the plane ticket but you can also get a fantastic holiday out of it.

Once you can establish their credentials you could save a fortune. But consult your own Irish doctor first.

It is crazily expensive in New York for dentistry work - more so than here. Also if you are a paye worker you are entitled to a tax rebate on the cost of cosmetic dentistry that has been peformed in this country - up to 41 per cent. Also think that if in a couple of weeks there is a problem with the veneers how are you going to get back to get it sorted out????

Even go to any small town in Germany or Berlin via Ryanair and look for a dentist there and you wont go far wrong. The rate of inflation over there is really small compared to ours and their standards among the highest and I never met a dentist over there who didnt have perfect english.
