Hi,

I have a Tesco Credit Card that I want to cancel and was wondering what is the most correct way to go about it.

Should I write or phone and how can I be sure it won't adversly affect my credit rating?

Are there any formal regulations or even template letters that govern this. Had a look online but found nothing concrete.

Thanks

Last time I cancelled a card I wrote to the bank concerned, cut up my card and enclosed it with the letter. They acknowledged, issued a final statement (including the Govt Stamp Duty) which I paid in full. That was the end of the matter and no reason why it should affect your credit rating. You may want to ask them for a letter confirming you paid the Stamp Duty so that you can avoid paying it a second time if you move to a new card provider.

I concur with Crunchie. just send a letter asking the issuer to close the account. It will have no impact on your credit rating.
