Copper Pipe Outside House Leaking Water

Hi...Hope somebody can help me? The small copper pipe on the back of the house is leaking water (steady stream). This happened before (about a year ago) when there was a buildup of hot water in the house - I lowered the heating and it stopped. I did the same this time just in case it was the same problem however this time it hasn't stopped the flow of water. Does anybody know how I could resolve it - I have switched the heating off completely at the moment to see if this has any effect. Could it be related to the safety valve in the hotpress - Apologies for the laymans terms and the lack of knowledge in general! The valve has a small red plastic piece in top - should this be tightened and could this be related? I'm at a loss....Any help appreciated. By the way, have called a plumber twice but have been let down - so just seeing if this is something I could sort myself? Many Thanks.....

Asked elsewhere. Apparently it's the overflow of the water tank and can be caused by a stuck stopcock

It sounds like the overflow pipe from your feed & expansion tank from your heating system in the attic is overflowing. If it is overflowing when the heating is off, then the likely cause is a faulty/stuck float valve in the tank.

The f & e tank is the small tank in your attic. It will have a pipe to it feeding cold water through a float valve. Try move the valve so it turns off and empty some water out of the tank to about half way or less, it might be just stuck, but it may require a new valve.

I had a similar problem a few years ago and what I did was placed a sheet of styraform into the tank...under the ballcock, thus raising the ballcock and it sorted it for me.

Why not just slightly bend the ballcock arm (no styrofoam required!)

Maybe the ball is burst and half filled with water, tie up, screw off and replace
